[Story/Post]

It's been over a month since he did it.

For all intents and purposes, Tarou honestly felt great-- as great as he could feel, anyway. He didn't feel like he was going to vanish. He felt like he could "live" for quite a while at this pace, even if he didn't do anything. Not that he'd be allowed to, but it was nice not having the pressure on his shoulders.

This didn't account for the guilt he had felt at doing it though, in the first place.

For what he was, and what had to be done to get him here, a lot of energy had been required. It was one thing to just keep him going, but to abandon another worldline took a whole lot more than just that. His "patron" necessitated a lot to keep going, and it was already a bit amazing that it had helped get him there.

And maybe at first, the guilt of what he had to do wasn't... crushing. But after a month, it was starting to get a little suffocating. He just had to keep reminding himself that it was for his own survival-- with this done, he could avoid doing anything like that again for a long time.

Of course, it didn't help that he seemed to gain a stalker in that time.

Sure, the guy doing it was sneaky. He obviously had skill in trailing and tracking, but sometimes Tarou would catch glimpses of him-- his blonde hair sorta stuck out among the students and the staff, after all. It was the new "teaching assistant" that the now-joint history instructor had hired to help them with "organizing and keeping students under watch".

On the days that the black-haired Samasu wasn't teaching, Tarou usually would notice the aid keeping an eye on him, for reasons he couldn't fully understand. A little part of him would think, "wait, maybe he might know what I did?" But then he'd discard the thought-- no one should know what he did. He did it on the busiest day of the year, under the cover of night. Heck, the news reports all thought his sacrificing had been some "early fireworks". He had a good cover about it.

... And yet, he couldn't shake that feeling. Why would someone be following or trailing him like this?

Maybe you should just get rid of him, if he's getting on your nerves.

Tarou shook his head. No, he already promised himself-- he wouldn't involve anyone who's on the island. You can explain away someone going missing in the city, but on a relatively cut off island like this... it just wouldn't sit right. People would notice the light in a place like this, anyway.

Plus... he didn't want to get a bunch of kids dragged into this, either.

Even after all of this time, you're still soft. If you're not careful, I'll take matters into my own hands soon enough...

Tarou never liked that threat. Not that his "patron" had ever made due on it, but it was a reminder. A constant reminder that his life was in it's hands (or lack of thereof) until he fulfilled his duty.

Oh, how he wished for the moment when he'd have his "life" again, really.

Well, at the moment, he had concerns other than dealing with a stalker. After spending some time doing a little more research about his... alternate self, he did find a small connective line with things.

The picture of the excavated scythe looked very similar to that of the card artwork for Artifact Scythe. And there was some very niche articles about an island that appeared some time ago-- populated by "aliens" who used weapons similar to that of the Artifact series.

If whatever possessed his alternate was related to that, it'd be worth it to take a look, right?

... plus an alien island is intriguing enough by itself.

So, I've been getting kinda curious...

There's supposed to be an island a while off the coast that suddenly appeared, right? Can anyone tell me about it?
